George D. Vickery, 65, of Pendleton and formerly of New Castle died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born April 7, 1946 in Cooper, Kentucky, a son of the late Knox and Cathern (Roll) Vickery.
He served as a sergeant with the United States Marine Corp. during Vietnam War. He retired from Pendleton Correctional Facility after 25 years of service and had formerly been employed at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. George was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed restoring motorcycles. He also liked fly fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife: Kelly (Crider) Vickery, whom he married March 23, 2001; children; George Vickery, Jr., and Christina Boggs both of San Bernardino, California, Laura Vickery of Louisiana, Bonnie Isidora of Noblesville, Samantha Johnson of Pendleton and Nathaniel Vickery at home; eighteen grandchildren; three brothers: Bill Vickery, Larry Vickery and James Vickery, all of New Castle; two sisters: Nellie Rockow of Minnesota and Patsy Shultz of New Castle; several nieces, nephews & cousins; aunt & uncle: Dennis & Charlene Vickery of New Castle.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister: Cathern Marie Vickery.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Lawson officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion & VFW.
