George Wooten

George H. Wooten, age 85, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Heritage House of New Castle following an extended illness. He was born May 24, 1924 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Jasper H. and Berniece (Davis) Wooten.

A 1942 graduate of New Castle High School, George farmed for many years in Dudley Township and then owned and operated Chevron Filling Station in Ormond Beach, Florida for several years. George was a past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge in New Castle and a past member of Moose and Eagles Lodges. He was also a member of New Lisbon Lions Club. He had served on the Sheriff department’s horse patrol. He enjoyed horses, traveling and especially enjoyed spending time at Luellen Brothers Inc. in New Lisbon.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Wooten of New Castle; two daughters, Lizabeth (husband, John) Catt of New Castle and JoEllen (husband, Robert) Miller of Lafayette; a sister, Sarah Jane Wisehart of TX; a very special niece, Saundra Diane Kellam of GA; a nephew, Danny Wisehart; grandchildren, Adrianne (husband, Chris) Woolard of New Castle, Cindi (husband, Bryan) Rottinghaus of New Castle, Stacie Jo Miller of Findlay, OH, Rebecca Lynn Miller of Lafayette, Robert Wayne Miller III and Clayton Ray Miller, both of VA, JoDee (husband, David) Schenck, Stephen Wooten and Scott (wife, Amber) Wooten all of Indianapolis; a step-daughter, Ann Miller; three step granddaughters, Stacey Jackson, Lindsey Masterson and Tracey Miller; several great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda J. Wooten; a son, Jan H. Wooten; granddaughter, Jennifer Wooten; a sister Winifred Kellam.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Roby Wood officiating and the Elks Lodge providing a memorial service. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
