Gerald Lee Riggs, 86, of Shirley passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at his residence. He was born December 26, 1926, in Shirley, Indiana, a son of the late Russell and Edna (Cronk) Riggs.
A 1945 graduate of Cadiz High School, he was a lifelong farmer and had been employed at Marsh Corporation in Yorktown. He was a 62 year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Center Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for many years. He was a member of the Eastern Indiana Dairy Association, 10 year 4-H member and showed cattle for 30 plus years. He was a member of the American Guernsey Breeders Association. He loved fishing in Florida where he was a championship horseshoe pitcher. He was an avid golfer, bowler and member of canasta card club. In high school he played baseball and basketball and continued to be a sports fan of the Pacers, Colts, IU and Reds.
Survivors include his children: Linda Kay Razmic of Albany, Larry Riggs of Markleville, Vickie (husband, Kip) Jones of Sulphur Springs and Marcia (husband, Randy) Jones of New Castle; seven grandchildren: Tammy Samuel, Conny Knight, Darcy Cooper, Richard Riggs, Jeremy Jones, Wes Jones and Kindsey Smith; three step grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and a sister: Anna Mae Watkins of Mechanicsburg.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Juanita R. (Bolen) Riggs; an infant son: Richard; two grandchildren: Ronnie Lee and Molly Ann Riggs; a son-in-law: John Razmic; brother: Garnet Riggs; two sisters: Helen Jeffries and Betty Riggs; half sister: Mary Lou Riggs and stepmother: Nell Riggs.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday April 2, 2013, at the funeral home.
