Gilbert “Gib” J. Steurer, 85, of Knightstown, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born July 1, 1926 in New Castle, the son of Emerson J. and Hazel (Thorpe) Steurer.
He attended Knightstown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He owned and operated K-town Body and Paint Shop for over 50 years. He was an avid Boston Celtics fan and a Dale Earnhardt fan. He had formerly raced go-carts and was an avid golfer. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children: Nancy Puckett of Noblesville, Carol Stutsman of Knightstown, Shirley (Dave) Farris of Indianapolis, John Steurer of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren: Jim (Stephanie) Meredith, Rob (Tina) Meredith, Rusty (Heather) Meredith, Jennifer (Terry) Jordan, Jason (Sonya) Stutsman, Erika (James) Sylvia, Rachelle Richey, Craig Richey; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Raymond Steurer.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Knightstown Friends Church. Military rites will follow at the Garden of Memories Veterans Memorial.
