Glen Robert Starbuck, 100, of Kennard, passed away on Friday September 27, 2024, surrounded by family at Sugar Fork Crossing in Anderson. He was born on March 17, 1924, in Greensboro to the late Lester and Margaret (Reece) Starbuck.
On July 20, 1946, Glen married his sweetheart, Waunita Jean Williams, who preceded him in death on January 5, 2024. They spent 77 years together in the same home in Kennard. He graduated from Kennard High School in 1942 and retired from General Motors after 36 years of service. Glen was a United States Army Staff Sergeant in the 3rd Army, 648th Battalion Tank Destroyer. He served in central Germany, Battle of the Bulge and was also in the escort for General Patton. Glen served as a Kennard Volunteer Fireman and was a member of the Greensboro #175 Masonic Lodge, where he was a 50-year member and Past Master. He was a longtime member of Kennard Friends Church and served as a Trustee and Elder for many years, helping to keep everything at the church in perfect shape. Glen was a hard worker and always wanted to stay busy; even at 100 was still mowing his yard, gardening, maintaining his home and “piddling” in his workshop.
Glen is survived by his daughters, Glenna (Ron) Womack and Jan (Bob) Lines both of Kennard; grandchildren, Kami (Brett) Doubman of Kennard, Molly (Jeff) Finch of Tipton and Ross (Elizabeth) Lines of Martinsville; five great grandchildren, Kylie (Zane) Willis, Hannah (Rusty) Asberry, Karsyn (Caleb) Overdorf, Kamron Finch and Vivienne Lines; seven great-great grandchildren; Dawson and Emmerly Asberry, Carter and Kinsley Overdorf, Maddon,Palmer and Saddler Willis; and good friend and buddy, Tyson Roll.
In addition to his parents and wife, Glen is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Kirk.
Services will be held on Wednesday October 2, 2024, at 10:00 am at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Bob Lines officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday October 1, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Greensboro Masonic Lodge at 6:45 pm on Tuesday.
