Gloria Jean Bowling

Gloria Jean Bowling, 78, of New Castle passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025 at her residence. She was born August 27, 1946 in New Castle to the late L. Elmo and Opal M. (Stephens) Lewman.

Gloria was a 50-year member of the New Castle Order of the Eastern Star #116 and 38-year member of the New Castle Eagle’s Lodge #933. She retired from the City of New Castle in 2010 where she was the Deputy Clerk-Treasurer. In her spare time, Gloria was a very talented artist and enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, horseback riding, wood carving, working with stained glass. She was an avid reader and even played the banjo. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Bowling; children, Andrew (Teresa) Chew, Scott (Kari) Bowling, Kristi (Mike) Clarkson, Shawn (Steve) Thurston; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren; sister, Faith A. Groce; brother, Stephen C. Lewman; brother-in-law, Bill Bowling; sisters-in-law, Judy and Carolyn Bowling; aunts, Ruby Docker and Margie Barnett; niece, Anessa (Jeremy) Meadows; nephews, Zack Medford (fiancé, Meredith Hiatt), John and Zach Lewman and several cousins and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law; brother-in-law, Herman Groce Jr.; a granddaughter, Heather; a grandson, Nicholas; a nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A time to celebrate Gloria’s life will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
