Gloria “Jeanne” Waddell, 82, a resident of Glen Oaks Assisted Living in New Castle passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 14, 2024 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born November 2, 1941 in New Castle to the late Thomas and Louise (McCubbins) Langston.
Jeanne was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Summit High School where she was a class officer. She retired from Draper Shade in Spiceland and formerly worked for Pease Corp. in New Castle and for the New Castle Community Schools food dept. Jeanne was past worthy matron with the New Castle Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and, later in life, the 9th St. Wesleyan Church. An avid bowler, she bowled in many leagues. Above all, Jeanne loved spending time with family and friends. In her earlier years, you would often find her at the family lake home at Chapman lake, where she loved to water ski, swim and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida. Her door was always open to anyone that wanted to drop by. She often had a house full of family.
Survivors include a daughter: Sheryl (Ralph) Zampitella of New Castle; brother: James (Pat) Langston of New Castle; sister-in-law: Sandy Langston (Phil Deane) of Anderson; four grandchildren: Mark J. Alexander (Libby Lapp), Ryan Waddell, Zack Leonard and Clark (Haley) Leonard; two great-grandsons: Drake Waddell and Waylon Alexander; several nieces, nephews and cousins in including a special cousin: Ron (Teresa) Smith of Spiceland.
In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years: Raymond Waddell; son: Thomas R. Waddell in 2014; brother: Roy Langston; sister: Betty Dalton; brother-in-law: Glen Dalton; nephews: Rob Shrum and Troy Langston and a niece: Tonya Langston.
An Eastern Star service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Funeral services will follow immediately with Pastor Mark Wooten officiating. Burial will take place in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00a.m.until time of the services on Saturday.
