It is with deep sorrow, we announce the death of Gloria Maxine McGaughey, 93, of New Castle Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 27, 1931, in Farmer’s Kentucky to the late Robert and Beulah Royce.
Gloria graduated from New Castle High School. Shortly after, she and James C. McGaughey married on June 18, 1949, until his passing on March 4, 2007. They had three children, Linda, Michael, and the late, David.
Gloria is survived by her children, Linda (Jeff) Regallis of Akron, Ohio; Michael (Valerie) McGaughey of O’Fallon Missouri; Daughter in Law, Sue McGaughey; sister-in-law, Shirley Criswell. Grandmother to Shane (Julie) McGaughey, Chris McGaughey, Anthony McGaughey, Suzanne Slabaugh, Richard (Amber) Sladek, Josh (JoAnna) McGaughey, Tiffany McGaughey, and Tyler McGaughey. Great Grandmother to Quinton (Destiny) McGaughey, Landon McGaughey, Cole Slabaugh, Logan Slabaugh, Krista McGaughey, Kassidee McGaughey, Baylee McGaughey, Brayson McGaughey, Jayce McGaughey, Rylee Hopkins. She is also survived by her sister, Deloris Habegger.
Gloria considered her major life accomplishments to include being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was compassion, personified. A fierce friend. Loyal to God, worshipping at Wittier Lane Baptist Church for many, many years. She especially enjoyed fellowship with her family and friends. Gloria loved to bake in particular when her kids and grandkids came to town, her specialties included peanut butter cookies and homemade fudge. She adored animals, especially dogs, often going on long walks with her schnauzer pups. Although many of her grandchildren lived out of state, Gloria was tickled to hear about their sporting events and how things were going with school whenever they came to town or even on the phone.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, David McGaughey; brother, Bill Royce along with step brother-in-law, Arthur Plunkett; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Bud) Holcomb; and brother-in-law, Fred Criswell.
