Gordon R. Riddle
October 28, 1937 — January 22, 2012
Gordon R. Riddle, age 74, of Mt. Summit, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 in Henry County Hospital following an extended illness. He was born October 28, 1937 in Albany, KY, a son of the late Leslie and Allie (Hatcher) Riddle.
Gordon was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1956 to 1961, where he obtained rank of LCpl, and served in the 101st Airborne division of the U. S. Army from 1961 to 1964, where he obtained rank of Sgt.E-5. Gordon was an electrician at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for over 36 years, retiring in 2000, where he also was a member of the UAW Local #371.
A member of the American Legion in New Castle, where he had served as treasurer, he also was a past member of the Moose Lodge in New Castle. He was also an avid auto enthusiast.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 45 years, Carolyn J. (Phelps) Riddle of Mt. Summit; two children, Greg (wife, Kathy) Riddle of Andover, MN, and Jennifer (husband, Brandon) McQuiddy of Murfreesboro, TN; four grandchildren, Nolan and Natalie Riddle, both of Andover, MN, and Elijah and Riley McQuiddy, both of Murfreesboro, TN; one sister, Martha Riddle of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Helen Phelps of Spiceland; two nieces, Kim Houser of New Castle and Juli Phelps of Indianapolis; three nephews, Shane (wife, Carol) Phelps of Lewisville, Dusty (fiancé, Natalie) Phelps of Spiceland; and David (wife, Evelyn) Murray of Hagerstown; uncle, Joe (wife, June) Duvall of New Castle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph “Tom” Riddle, and a brother-in-law, Steve Phelps.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Mark O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
