Gordon "Dutch" Sweppenheiser

Gordon “Dutch” Sweppenheiser, age 86, of New Castle, passed away after an extended illness, Saturday, March 7, 2009. He was born March 24, 1922 in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania to the late Roscoe and Vera (Masteller) Sweppenheiser. Gordon served his country during WWII in the United States Army. On January 2, 1954 he married the love of his life Mildred (Lutz) Loftus. Gordon has resided in New Castle since 1965 and retired from Chrysler after 22 years of employment as a machine repairman. He loved fishing, boating and gardening. He enjoyed his family, loved the outdoors and was also known for his great sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Mildred Sweppenheiser of New Castle; a son: Dale Loftus (wife: Joann) of New Palestine; four grandchildren: Angie Ryan (husband: Neil) of Loveland, OH, Lisa Loftus of Mesquite, TX, Brad Loftus (wife: Dona) of Fishers, and Natalie Loftus of New Palestine; two great grandchildren; a brother: David Sweppenheiser of New York. .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Harry Sweppenheiser and his sister Dolly Sweppenheiser.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, IN where military rites will be conducted. Friends may call from 9:30-10 a.m. at the funeral home Thursday March 12, 2009. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association and to the Alzheimer’s Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
