Grace Elizabeth Wallen

August 27, 1925 — April 7, 2011

Grace Elizabeth (Peters) Wallen, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 7, 2011.
She was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on August 27, 1925 to Rev. Charles Alison and Laura Edna (Smith) Peters. On March 9, 1941 she married the love of her life, Hansford Lafe Wallen who preceded her in death on March 18, 1995.
Grace was a homemaker and a gardener who enjoyed canning and cooking for friends and family. She will be remembered for her quick wit, hearty laugh and buttermilk biscuits. She cherished every moment with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Catherine Wiles-Selm and husband John of New Castle and Annette Cousert and husband Darrell of Danville; Grandsons, Shannon Wiles, John Wiles and wife Jan of Knightstown, Steve Morris and wife Amanda of Fort Worth, Texas; Granddaughter, Beth Wells and fiancé Neil Womack of Fishers; Step-grandsons, Joseph Cousert and wife Crystal, James Cousert of San Antonio, Texas; Step-granddaughters, Kim Johnson and husband Bob of Noblesville, Kristy Dankovich and husband Michael of New Albany, Karen Hickam and husband Kevin of St. Petersburg, Florida, and April Cousert of Danville, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Caleb Lafe, Owen John and Henry Hansford Wiles; step great-grandchildren, Abby, Chelsea, Chloe and Lindsay Johnson; Ashley and Megan Dankovich; Hannah and Sophia Hickam; Zack South and Zoe Cousert; brother, Rev. Charles (Junior) Peters of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Lawrence, James, Daniel, Frank and Roy Peters; and sisters, Mary Peters, Lorena Catron, Minnie Denny, and Dorothy Heckathorn.
Grace and Hansford made their home first in New Castle then moved to Mooreland where they farmed for many years. Grace most recently made her home at The Woodlands in New Castle.
Grace was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church since moving to New Castle in 1946 where she was a Sunday school teacher, former Sunday school secretary/treasurer and former president of the Women’s Missionary Council.
Calling will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle on Sunday, April 10th from 2 to 6 PM. Services to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, April 11th at 10:30 AM at First Assembly of God Church, 3600 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle. Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery.
