Griffin "Neal" Melton, age 72, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson. He was born May 18, 1941 in Whetstone, Kentucky to the late Homer P. and Celia (Gilbert) Melton.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Mr. Melton retired from Chrysler Corporation in 2000 after over 30 years of service. He was a past member of the American Legion, VFW, VVA and AMVETS. Neal attended Bible study at Glen Oaks Health Campus and enjoyed camping, fishing and NASCAR races. He also collected and refurbished old cars.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Charlotte (Snider) Melton whom he married June 7, 1968; two stepsons, Mark E. Davis of Warrington and Jeffrey A. (Lea D.) Davis of Markleville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Britney (Ryan) Jones of New Castle; a special great grandson, Rylan Jones; brother-in-law and special friend, Ralph Loveless of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Skaggs and Betty Loveless.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Ryan McCarty officiating. Entombment will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by a contingent from the U.S. Army, the American Legion and the VFW.
