H. Richard Gallien, 88, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born November 26, 1925 in Cloutierville, LA a son of Conston and Alice Gallien.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served on General MacArthur's Honor Guard. He was also stationed in Tokyo. He retired from Interstate United, the food service for Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, after over 15 years of service as manager of the cafeteria and vending. He was an avid HAM Radio Operator, enjoyed radio controlled airplanes and motorcycles. He was a former member of Eagles Lodge in New Castle and a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in New Castle.
He is survived by his wife of over 63 years: Melba R. Gallien of New Castle; two sons: Richard Lewis Gallien of Indianapolis; Daniel Lee Gallien of New Castle; grandchildren: Justin Spoonamore and Joshua Spoonamore both of Greenwood, Lacy La Rue of Linton, Chad Gallien of Knightstown, Le Randa Gallien of Bloomington, Emily Gallien of Lewisville; siblings: Joseph Gallien of Canton, IL, Nellie Kuhn of Canton, IL, Motile Clark of Orland, CA, Clotile Williams of Canton, IL; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Vicki Lynn Gallien in 1953 and a brother: Kelly Gallien.
Services will be at 1:30 PM Monday, December 23, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Arthur Whitaker officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and the VFW. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 2-5 PM Sunday.
