Harrison Poss

Harrison Floyd Poss, 85, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Friday, September 18, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born May 24, 1924 in Sparta, Tennessee, a son of the late Samuel L. and Orpha (O’Conner) Poss.

He retired from the Farm Bureau Co-op in New Castle and was a Master Mason with the Hagerstown Masonic Lodge. Harrison was a beloved husband who loved his family very much. He had lots of friends and enjoyed entertaining them. He was a member of Eaton Church of Christ. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Thelma Jean (Vinson) Poss; children: Sam (wife: Nan) Prater of Syracuse, IN, Floyd (wife: Joan) Poss of Conklin Michigan, Homer (wife: Gladys) Poss of Flint, Michigan; Annie Jones of New Castle; Jeffrey (wife: Christine) Poss of Warsaw, New York, Donna (husband: Tim) Sloat of Evansville and Jeanetta Malkemus of New Castle; fifteen grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Bob (wife: Joyce) Vinson of Tennessee; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son: Jerry Prater; two brothers: Leonard Poss and Hugh Poss; and two sisters: Lemmie Bursell and Lennie Bursell.

Services will be 1:00 p.m.Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta, Tennessee with Carl Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hunter Funeral Home. Local arrangements are entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
