Helen P. Owens, age 85, a resident of Evansville, formerly of New Castle and Indianapolis, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Signature Healthcare of Newburgh. She was born November 17, 1928 in New Castle, Indiana to the late William J. and Lucy J. (Weston) Day.
She had worked for several local restaurants as a waitress. Helen was a member of the Evansville Church of the Nazarene and a former member of First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle and the Westbrook Church of the Nazarene in Indianapolis. She enjoyed cooking and collecting salt and pepper shakers.
Survivors include a daughter: Linda (Thomas) Marquis of Evansville; nine grandchildren: Scott (Ruth) Wolfe of New Castle, Lucinda (Eric) Brown of Owensboro, KY, Thomas D. Marquis (friend: Michelle Jones) of Indianapolis, James (Donna) Marquis of Evansville, Bryan (Missy) Wolfe of Greenfield, Tammy (David) Criswell of New Castle, Matthew (Robin) Marquis of Terre Haute, Esther (Jeff) Sullenger of Evansville and John (Anneliese) Marquis of Brazil, IN; thirty three great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Owens in 1999; a daughter, Donna E. Wolfe; three brothers, Gene, Robert and James Day.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Rudolph Lee officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
