Helen Jeanette White, 88, of Fort Collins, CO died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, CO after a 2 week battle with pneumonia. She was born February 21, 1921 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Floyd and Beatrice (Harris) Matney.
Helen graduated from New Castle High School in 1939 and married Richard White on June 12, 1942. She worked as an Indiana Bell telephone operator, lived in many different locations with her husband after World War II during his 28 year military career, and finally returned to New Castle in 1968. She attended Foursquare Gospel Church, was a member of RSVP and had volunteered for the Red Cross at Henry County Memorial Hospital. In 2003 she moved to Fort Collins, CO to be closer to her son.
She is survived by a son: Richard White II of Fort Collins, CO; one sister: Mary George of New Castle; one brother-in-law: Ray O. Frost also of new Castle; two sisters-in-law: Alice Matney of Jacksonburg, IN and Marthena Matney of Richmond; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers: Roscoe, William, Robert and Howard Matney; two sisters: Margaret Matney and Martha Jane Frost.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Online condolences may be made at
