Henry T Swift

February 4, 1926 — March 16, 2011

Henry T. Swift, age 85, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Henry County Hospital. He was born February 4, 1926 in Boone, North Carolina to the late Joseph Dewey and Aureola (Harmon) Swift.

A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II stationed on the USS Concord. He retired from Hibbing International Friction in New Castle in 1997, prior to that he worked at CMW in Indianapolis retiring in 1990. He had also been employed at World Bestos Division of Firestone in New Castle. He attended many Navy reunions and was a member of the US Navy Memorial, a life member of the VFW, member of American Legion, New Castle Moose Lodge and a life member of the Elks Lodge in New Castle. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Driver) Swift; daughter, Gail Trotter of Greenville, SC; son, Gary Swift of Asheville, NC; brothers and sisters, Bill Clay (wife, Erma) Swift of New Castle, Ed (wife, Peggy) Swift of Albany, GA, Jim (wife, Jerri) Swift of Appling, GA, Norman Swift of Boone, NC and Mary (husband, Elmer) Norris of Zionsville, NC; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Claude and Mary Driver; brothers, Carl, Robert, Roby and Charlie Swift; sister, Frances Bun ton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Larrel Boling officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and the VFW. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at the funeral home where an Elks memorial service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
