Homer Odell Hicks, 81, of Mooreland, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born July 21, 1932 in Overton County, Tennessee to the late Johnnie and Dora Emma (Carwile) Hicks.
Homer retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1997 after 43 years of service. He had also been employed at Carlos Casket factory. He was a member of Mooreland Friends Church and was active with Mooreland Area Food Pantry. He was involved with the Bean Tent at the Mooreland Fair for many years. He loved gardening, visiting Tennessee and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Patricia Lovealene Hicks; children: Lisa (Donnie) Hoots of New Castle, Chris (Melissa) Hicks of New Castle, Matt Hicks of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Rebecca (Keith “Pete”) Underhill of Richmond, Robin (Jane) Hicks of New Castle, Andrew (Karen) Hicks of New Castle, Kelly (Catrina) Hicks of Mooreland, Amy (Ron) McGinnis of New Castle and Jeremy Lee; 29 grandchildren: Courtenay Pierce, Cassie Hart, Kylee Hays, Katherine & Lee Hoots, Gabrielle Ayers, Alex Hicks, Tosha Hicks, Heather Glisson, Heather New, Derronda Mark, Ryan Hicks, Kendra Wilson, Lorelei Atwara, Liza Clark, Lucas & Elijah Hicks, Emily Davis, Jodi Williams, Chloe & Lily Hicks, Katie Bennett, Cameron Hicks, Kiersten Hicks, Kyla Hicks, Jesse Haltom, Spencer Brown, Zeke McGinnis; 47 great grandchildren; one brother: James (Judy) Hicks of Hartsville, TN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Douglas; a great grandson: Andrew Kavan; a great granddaughter: Lehlu Lindsay; brothers: William, Herman, Willard, Willis, Cleveland, Fowler, Thurman, Howard, and Roy; sisters: Ola Benton, Velma Denny, Allie Vaughn, Alma Dees, Norma Hunt and Sylvia Hunt.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 3-8 PM Tuesday.
