Howard Rader

Howard “Howdy” Rader, 72, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 27, 1936 in Henry County the son of Harold and Grace (Williams) Rader.

Howard was the owner of Quality Fabrications of Indiana, Inc. located in New Castle. He was a resident of Mooreland for 18 years, had been a resident of Sulphur Springs and Jefferson Township for 40 years and had lived in New Castle since 1995.

A graduate of Mooreland High School and Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1961. Howard was a member of the Sulphur Springs City Lodge No. 345 F & AM, Order of Eastern Star, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #147, American Legion Post #408 and the National Arbor Day Foundation. He was a past member of Lions Club, Noon Optimist, NIFIB and Henry County Shriners. Howard enjoyed traveling, working with wood, collecting antiques and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his best friend and fiance: Phyllis Ballenger of New Castle; sons: Todd A. (wife: Terry) Rader of New Castle; Darren Rader of Muncie; grandson: Alan (wife: Rachel) Rader of Spiceland; granddaughter: Darcy Rader of Hagerstown; two brothers: Lloyd (wife: Jean) Rader of New Castle; and Robert “Bob” (wife: Lillian) Rader of Mooreland; sister: Betty McClerney of New Castle; great granddaughters: Kassady and Kyle Rader of Spiceland. Extended family: Jeff, Mike, Ronnie and Calvin Ballenger of New Castle; Becky Smith of Lewisville; Casey, Lesley, Catelie, Jeffrey, Skyler, Cherrish and Aaron Ballenger; Monica Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Chester McClerney.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Tim Dice officiating. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #137 and VFW Post #1282. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Sulphur Springs City Lodge at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, Boys & Girls Town or American Lung Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
