Hubert W. Russell, 87, of New Castle died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born November 9, 1924 in Clay County, Indiana, a son of the late Edward and Maude (Morris) Russell.
Hubert retired from Chrysler Corporation as an electrician in the skilled trades division following 30 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #175 in Greensboro. He was a veteran U.S. Army, receiving a purple heart and bronze star.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a daughter: Teresa (husband, Charles) Orr of Anderson, a son: Mike (wife: Julie) Russell of Fortville; grandchildren: Bill (wife, Denise) Orr of Germany, Russell Orr of Anderson, Leesa Russell of Indianapolis, Michelle Russell of New Castle, Jake and Grace Russell, both of Fortville; sister: Edith Blake of Linton; brother: Gene Russell of Jasonville; special friend: Eileen Charlton of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Stella Marcelle McFarland; a son: Jeff Russell; a daughter: Mary Daffron; grandson: Aaron Orr, two sisters: Creola Morris and Olive Love; and six brothers: Willis, Earl, Frank, Jim, Oscar and Carl Russell.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Robert Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Masonic rites conducted at 5:30 p.m. Military rites will be conducted by the local American Legion and VFW and contingent from the U.S. Army.
