I. Irene Smith, 96, of Spiceland, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at her home. She was born March 21, 1920, in Henry County, Indiana to the late Perry and Leophia (Edwards) McCubbins.
She was a graduate of New Castle High School. She had been employed at RCA in Indianapolis, and in the offices of New Castle Products and Modernfold in New Castle, in the sales department and as a secretary, retiring in 1982.
Survivors include a son, Ronald C. (wife: Teresa) Smith; a daughter-in-law, Diana Smith; a granddaughter, Angela (husband: Todd)(Smith) Jessup; four grandsons, Alan (wife: Donna) Smith, Mark Smith, Derek Smith and Brian (wife: Barbara) Smith all of Spiceland; five great granddaughters, Samantha Smith of Middletown, Autumn Smith, Victoria Smith and Macy Smith all of New Castle, and Gracin Jessup of Spiceland; seven great grandsons, Tyler Smith of Middletown, Virgil Smith of New Castle, Noah Smith, Gavin Jessup, Garrett Jessup, Grant Jessup, Griffin Jessup all of Spiceland; two brothers-in-law, Paul (wife: Helen) Thompson of Spiceland and Clarence (wife: Judy) Smith, Jr. of Lees Summit, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lloyd H. Smith; a son, Gerald L. Smith; an infant granddaughter, Connie Sue Smith; sisters, Waneta Wilt and Louise Langston; brothers, Bill McCubbins, Courtland McCubbins and Harry McCubbins; eight brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Cemetery in Hagerstown. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Condolences and memories of Irene may be expressed at
