Irene Crone

Irene Crone, age 81, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 4, 2010 at her residence. She was born April 27, 1928 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Elmer and Cloda B. (Tarter) Harmon.

She graduated from New Castle High School in 1947 and retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company April 15, 1977 following 32 years of service. Irene belonged to Indiana Bell Telephone Company Pioneers of America and was also a life member of Ma Belle’s Club. She was an avid doll collector. She was married to her wonderful husband George Crone for 59 years.

Survivors include her brothers: Omrie (wife: Geraldine) Harmon of New Castle, Cecil Harmon of New Castle; sister-in-law: Phylis Osborn; several nieces and nephews; a long time friend: Lois Davis of New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: George Crone; brothers: Clyde Harmon, Arlen Harmon, Athel Harmon, Gene Harmon; a nephew: Donnie Harmon; sisters-in-law: Ruth Harmon, Judy Clements and Elsie Harmon.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 12-1:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
