Irene C. (Gross) Ford, age 101, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 in Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield. She was born March 12, 1912 in Tipton, Indiana to the late John and Mae (Davidson) Gross.
She lived in New Castle for over 60 years and was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church in New Castle. Irene enjoyed embroidering and caring for her grandchildren. By her testimony and life she knew Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She is now experiencing the verse in 2 Corinthians 5:8, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
Survivors include a son, John (Sue) Ford of Anderson; daughter, Mary (Charles "Chip") Brown of Davenport, FL; eight grandchildren, Jay Ford of Prescott, AZ, Lori Ford (Tim) Runyan of Summitville, IN, Matt (Jena) Ford of East Mesa, AZ, Rachel Brown (Paul) Weber of Australia, Rebecca Brown (Charlie) Coyle of Stuart, FL, Thomas (Katie) Brown of Winston-Salem, NC, Timothy (Tamara) Brown of Loganville, GA and Jamey Brown of Davenport, FL ; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a sister, Dena Mae Floyd of Tipton, IN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Ford in 1987; siblings, Beulah Roller, Owen Gross, Harvey Gross, Lulah Mitzenberg, Ralph Gross and Freda Amos.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Charles Brown, Bob Schon and Dennis Pycraft officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
