Ivan Cable

Ivan Cable, age 94, of New Castle passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Jasper Memorial Hospital. He was born April 18, 1917 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Orville and Mary (Casteel) Cable.
Ivan and his wife traveled extensively in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, England, Holland, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Trinidad, Australia, Barbados, Guatemala, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Belize, Luxembourg, Ecuador, Venezuela, Indonesia, and Africa. He was employed at New Castle Chrysler Plant and then at the Chevrolet Plant in Muncie, retiring as a die sinker with 39 years plant seniority. He also owned Ridge Notion Shop in New Castle for a few years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII. He was a football and basketball player in New Castle Chrysler High School and played on the team that won the first North Central Conference in football. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle, also the district and general church and received numerous awards. He was a Sunday school teacher, department supervisor and Sunday school superintendent, NYPS president and served on the church board. He loved assisting at Boys camp as counselor. Ivan was an avid photographer and was district photographer for 15 years. He also was a member of the Avondale Sympathy Club.
Survivors include his two daughters: Janice Sue Collett of Selma, IN and Martha Ann (husband: Arthur) Hughes of St. Anthony, IN; seven grandchildren: Terry Annette Snider of Port Hadlock, WA State, Cindy Elaine Snider of Indianapolis, Amy (husband: Jason) Ludwick of Muncie, Rev. Chris (wife: Linda) Hughes of Christman, IL, Patrick (wife: Debbie) Hughes of New Castle, Juliana (husband: Michael) Brewer of Oswego, IL and Andy (wife: Jamie) Hughes of Evansville; 21 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, Duane (wife, Pat) Cable Mishawaka; sister-in-law, Mary Cable of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Bethel Cable; a great grandson, John Paul Hughes; sister, Lois; brothers, Earl, Dale, Paul (wife, Helen), and Bob (wife, Ora) Cable; nephew, Marvin Cable.
Services will be at 4:00 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle with Rev. Danny Goddard, Rev. Gary Cable and Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Music will be provided by Larry and Phyllis Richards. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
