J. T. "Gabby" Vaughn

February 26, 1928 — January 29, 2009

J.T. “Gabby” Vaughn, age 80, of Muncie, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 29, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born February 26, 1928 in Davidson, Tennessee to the late Alfred and Lara (King) Vaughn.

He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 40 years of service and from the Local UAW #371. In his early years he worked in the coal mines in Tennessee. He attended South Memorial Drive Church of God and the Open Arms Church. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a former member of the Elks. He was always happy and never met a stranger. He loved traveling, yard work, cars, sharing stories from the past and Christmas time. He also enjoyed collecting squirrels and coins. Mostly, he loved spending time with his family and was there for them when they needed him.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Juanita (Lowhorn) Vaughn; children: Lois Cook of New Castle, Janet Mitchell of Medina, OH; grandchildren: Melissa (husband: Jim) Jeffries of New Castle, Jamin (wife: Jessica) Vaughn of New Castle, great grandchildren: Jimmy Jeffries, Xavier, Marcus, Coltin, Lucas and Savannah Vaughn all of New Castle; nieces: JoAnn and Caroline of Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; three brothers; grandson: Larry “Little Larry” Mitchell.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Rick Davis and Chris Gamello officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
