J. Ray Johnson, age 69, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born February 1, 1943 in Carter County, Kentucky to the late Farris and Clara (Cline) Johnson.
Ray was a 1961 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School. He retired from GM in 1996 following over 30 years of service. Ray was a dog show judge, judging many shows across the United States and Canada and was a member of the Indianapolis Kennel Club. Ray was a very caring and giving person. He attended the North 14th Street Church of God and recently was attending Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church in Muncie.
Survivors include his sisters, Joy Tinsley of New Castle and Dolly (husband, Doug) Sutherland of Brookville, IN; brother, David (wife, Debbie) Johnson of Bushnell, FL; sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of New Castle; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Barbara Cline of Mansfield, OH and Betty Cline of New Castle, IN; and a host of special friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Johnson; brother-in-law, Calvin Tinsley; great-great niece, Paige Clemons; great nephew, Will Broyles; and several aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor James Oliver McCowan and Reverend Phil Brown officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2012 at the funeral home.
