Jack Lee Speer, 78, Charlottesville passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born June 29, 1935 in Decatur County, Indiana to Everett and Helen (Manlief) Speer.
A longtime resident of Charlottesville, he enjoyed farming and fishing and was employed by Eastern Hancock Schools from 1961-1998, where he served as head of maintenance. He had also been self-employed with Speer Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Knightstown Golden Rule Lodge #16, Knights Templar, Charlottesville Volunteer Fire Department and the Charlottesville Friends Church.
Survivors include his wife: Louise Speer, whom he married February 12, 1954; four children: Terry (wife: Terri) Speer of Carthage, Donita (husband: Wayne) Wolven of Noblesville, Jef Speer of Spencer, and Duresa Speer of Cicero; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his mother: Helen Speer of Greensburg; two brothers: Jim Speer of Charlottesville and Jeff (wife: Rodella) Speer of Clarksburg; a sister: Judy Powers of Greensburg; and a sister-in-law: Roberta Speer of Clarksburg.
He was preceded in death by his father: Everett Speer and a brother: John Speer.
Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Charlottesville Friends Church with Pastor David Deem officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Friends may call from 4-8 pm Friday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Masonic services will be held at 7 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
