Jackie Burke

Jackie L. “Jack” Burke, age 72, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born September 10, 1936 in Greensboro, Indiana to the late Orville and Helen (Scott) Burke.

He retired from Jefferson Smurfit Corporation in New Castle after 27 years of service and also as a custodian for New Castle Community School Corporation after eleven years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and loved taking rides in the country. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include four children: Rick (wife: Jonie) Burke, Lisa D. Burke, Tonney Burke (fiance: Valerie Coffey) and James Burke all of New Castle; six grandchildren: Justin, Erick, Wesley, J.T., Miranda and Caleb Burke; two sisters: Dorothy Burke of Wisconsin and Earla McCall of FL; four brothers: Carl (wife: Helen) Burke, Jimmy (wife: Ruthanne) Burke, Charles (wife: Glo) Burke and Carl Ray Helm all of New Castle; five sisters-in-law: Gracie Brooks, Hazel (husband: Earl) Catron, Bessie (husband: Charlie) Janes all of New Castle, Mae Hibbard and Frances Grubb both of KY; a brother-in-law: Earl (wife: Viola) Grubb of KY; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Mabel Burke on April 14, 2007; brother: Billy Burke and a sister: Carol.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jeff Green officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Methodist Hospital Hospice, Yellow Rose Unit with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.hinsey-brown.com .
