Jackie Elbert Claborn, 78, of Cambridge City, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He was born on February 13, 1947, in Albany, KY, to the late A.C. and Sally Claborn.
Jackie, better known as the Hustlin’ Hillbilly, lived life in the fast lane—literally. In 1965, he met the love of his life, Bonnie (Beaty) Claborn, and from that moment on, his journey took off. A passionate racer, he began his career in 1977, proudly taking his 1963 Ford across the checkered flag. His love for cars went beyond the racetrack; he found joy in restoring classic cars and had a talent for selling hot rods. He also loved attending car shows, where he took great pride in showing off his beautifully restored classic cars.
Racing was more than just a hobby—it became a family legacy spanning three generations. The number #17 adorned every family race car, a testament to the tradition he built. Jackie not only loved racing himself but also found immense pride and joy in watching his sons and grandchildren follow in his footsteps. Seeing them compete on the track and carry on his passion meant the world to him. He always had an eye for antiques and spent 50 years selling cars in Henry County, earning the respect and trust of many. Before his passion for racing, Jackie loved to fish with his younger brother Mark.
Jackie is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Bonnie Claborn; his children, Eddie Claborn, Kevin Claborn, and Tami Hall; his brother, Mark Claborn; and his sisters, Sheila Duvall, Barb Claborn, and Francis Smith. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Ryan Claborn, Chelsea Claborn, Lacy Hall, McKinsey Claborn, Kaiden Claborn, Kingston Claborn, and Alexis Claborn, as well as five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. and Sally Claborn; and his sisters, Judy Widau and Jeanie Dicken.
