Jackson Matthew York, age 6, of New Castle passed away Tuesday evening, May 15, 2012, following a year and a half battle with a brain tumor. He was born April 25, 2006, in New Castle, the son of David Matthew and Ashley Gail (Armstrong) York.
A kindergartner at Building Blocks in New Castle, Jackson was an avid baseball fan, attending his first baseball game when he was just two days old. From his earliest months, he wanted to play “pitch” with his dad. His favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees. He also loved playing golf, playing the Wii, and watching The Disney Channel.
Jackson also loved the outdoors and loved driving his Papaw’s boat at Dale Hollow Lake.
During his journey for the past year and a half, he never asked questions, seemed content with the situation, whatever each day brought.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Matt and Ashley York, of New Castle, a sister, Rylie York of New Castle; his two beagles whom he loved, Peanut and Bruce; maternal grandparents, Dale and Pam Armstrong; paternal grandparents; David and Julie York; maternal great grandmothers; Marilyn Weisheit and Nola Armstrong; paternal great grandmother, Emma Turner; paternal great grandfather, Jack Turner, all of New Castle; an aunt, Lindsay Armstrong of New Castle; Brittany and Kyle Watson, who has been by Jackson’s side throughout his journey; several great aunts, uncles and second cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandfathers, Johnny Weisheit and T.G. Armstrong; paternal great grandparents, Otha and Nancy York; infant uncle, Christopher York; and a great aunt, Sandy Laley.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at First Baptist Church in New Castle with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 at the First Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Jackson’s Journey Children’s Scholarship Fund c/o Ameriana Bank, 2118 Bundy Ave., New Castle, IN 47362 with envelopes available at the church.
