James "Jim" Dickerson

James “Jim” C. Dickerson, 79, of New Castle passed away Friday, May 06, 2016 at Heritage House following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on February 9, 1937 in New Castle to the late Vernon and Marie (Sumpter) Dickerson.

Jim had attended New Castle Chrysler High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. Over the years he was employed by Dickerson’s Transfer and Auction, Joyner’s Construction, and Buster’s Cement where he retired as a mechanic. Jim was always busy trying to fix something. He referred to himself as “Jack of all trades, master of none.” He especially enjoyed tinkering with cars and lawnmowers. Jim will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor and his ability to let anyone know where they stood with him. He had a passion for horses, guns and the Sunday morning turkey shoots. Jim’s family would like to express their thankfulness to Heritage House and staff, especially T.J., for the wonderful care he received and also to Pat Chase for all the care he received while at home.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janice (Derrickson) Dickerson of New Castle; children, Jeffrey (Joyce) Dickerson of Indianapolis, Janet Driskill of New Castle, Jada (Alan) Marshall of Plant City, FL, Joyce (Scott) Murphy of New Castle and Jackie Dueker of New Castle; grandchildren, Adam Driskill of Hagerstown, Katie (Aaron) Duncan of New Castle, Alex Marshall of Plant City, FL, Emily and Cory Murphy of New Castle, Derek, Regan, and Cassidy Dueker all of New Castle; great grandchildren, Emma and Logan Driskill, Bryce and Abby Duncan; sisters, Virginia Lee of New Castle, Mary (Richard) Dudley of New Castle, Linda (Berry) Salt; sister-in-law, Jeanette Dickerson of Greensboro.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy (Mary Ellen) Dickerson, Tommy Dickerson, and Ted (Ruth) Dickerson; sister, Betty (John) Benson; great grandson, Connor Driskill; special family friend, Joyce Solomon.

Services will be at 2:00P.M. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Woody Kreuzinger officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery- West Lawn Addition with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army and the New Castle American Legion/VFW. Friends may call from 4-7P.M.
