James C. “Shank†Jones, 73, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born August 6, 1936 in Morgan County, TN the son of Mintford and Elsie (Dixon) Jones.
A 1954 graduate of Mays High School, he served the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He retired from General Motors following 31 years of service. Shank was an avid sports fan especially enjoying the Reds, Colts and Purdue Boilermakers. He also enjoyed attending sporting events. Shank especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by a son: Todd (wife: Lisa) Jones of Knightstown; daughter: Stephanie Jones of New Castle; brother: Roy Jones of Shelbyville; sister: Linda Sullivan of Shelbyville; brother: Roland (wife: Mary) Jones of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren: Trey and Christopher Clayborn of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, four sisters, and a son: Marty Jones.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, April 12, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Center Christian Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 PM Sunday, April 11. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
