James "Elmer" Marcum

March 18, 1917 — March 23, 2009

James Elmer Marcum, age 92, of New Castle, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at Henry County Hospital. He was born March 18, 1917 in Narvel Clinton County, Kentucky to the late M.W. “Babe” and Lottie (Sheffield) Marcum.

A veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII, he retired from Ingersoll Steel Mill in New Castle after 28 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Castle for many years. He and his wife were expert gardeners and enjoyed their fruit trees. A farmer for many years, had an avid interest in coon dogs and hunting, and was known by all as a hard worker.

Survivors include three children: Evelyn (husband: Joseph) Bowling of Syracuse, IN, Howard J. (wife: WinEllen) Marcum of Newark, OH and Randall H. Marcum of New Castle; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Eva V. Marcum; infant son: Clarence; four brothers: Willie, Charlie, Ray and Lewis Marcum.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Brother Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2007 at the funeral home.
