James A. Martin

James A. Martin, 53, of Greenfield, passed peacefully from this world on Friday, March 20, 2009 in his home surrounded by loving family following a brief illness. He was born February 6, 1956 in New Castle, a son of the late James R. and Mary J. (Overman) Martin.

A 1974 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, he graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 1978, followed by completion of the 4 year Electrical Apprenticeship Program in November, 1983. He enjoyed 14 years as a Journeyman Electrician with IBEW Local #481, where currently employed, along with 16 years as an electrician with GM, Local #23. Jim was a member of Park Chapel Christian Church in Greenfield. He appreciated and enjoyed fellowship with family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 30 years, Janice S. (Walker) Martin of Greenfield; two children, a son Jared W. Martin, stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE and a daughter Julia J. (husband: Capt. Kellen) Blythe, stationed in Baumholder, Germany.

Also a sister, Carol D. Martin of New Castle; a brother, John R. (wife: Donna) Martin of New Castle; his mother-in-law, Betty J. Walker of New Castle; brothers-in-law, William Walker Jr. (wife: Cheryl) of Huntington, and Dr. Paul R. (wife: Kathy) Walker of North Carolina; also nieces Emilee (husband: Jeff) Minks and Allison Martin, along with several nephews, Will, Nick, Geoff and Andy Walker; and various cousins, aunts and uncles, including Dr. Ray (wife: Karen) Pavy of New Castle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law, William Walker.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Park Chapel Christian Church in Greenfield with Pastor Dave Woods and SrA Jared W. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hancock Regional Hospice Program or the Park Chapel Christian Church with envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
