James “Larry” Mikel, age 91, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at his residence. He was born March 21, 1925 in Monticello, Kentucky to the late Melvin R. and Laura (Higginbotham) Mikel.
He retired from GM in 1987 following 26 years of service and Chrysler for 11 years prior. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1945-1947 serving with General Patton. He was a member of the Greenfield Friends Meeting and a lifetime member of the VFW Local #933.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mikel of Indianapolis; children, Lawrence (Janet) Mikel of Spiceland, Linda F. (Terry) Denney of New Castle, and Diane J. (Gary) Asberry of Monticello, KY; thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a niece and nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela D. Iles; grandchildren, Larry Allen, Chrisy Ann and Kimberly Northrop; and a sister, Nora Fry.
