James Dean Overmyer, age 85, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Henry County Hospital. He was born December 10, 1928 in Fulton County, Indiana to the late Charley and Esther Marie (Stingley) Overmyer.
He served in the United State Air Force following World War II. He worked at Halderman Farm Management Service, Inc. where he managed 45 farms for over 45 years. He was also a Real Estate Broker. He graduated from Purdue University with a Masters Degree. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and also served as an elder. Jim was a past president and member of Kiwanis International for over 50 years. He was also a member of Indiana Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Overmyer of New Castle whom he married September 7, 1952; daughter, Carol (Bruce) Baker of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Mark (Mary Beth) Overmyer of Byron, IL; four granddaughters, Elisha (Mark) Zavada of Chicago, IL, Emily Wright of New Castle, Katelyn Wright of Fort Wayne, and Laura Overmyer of Byron, IL; a grandson, James S. Overmyer of Byron, IL; nephew, Michael Murdick; niece, Faye Davenport.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Wright; a sister, Bettye Lou Augsburger.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, with Reverends Wallace Wilson and Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Batson Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00-1:30 Saturday at the funeral home.
