James H Owens

James “Jim” H. Owens, 83, of New Castle passed away Friday, April 22 unexpectedly at his Albany, KY vacation home. He was born April 26, 1927 in Albany, KY to the late Herbert and Leta (White) Owens.

Jim earned his Journeyman’s Card as a machinist while employed with Dana Corporation where he retired following 31 years of service. He was also briefly employed with Chrysler Corporation and owned his own garage door business. Jim was a “Jack of all trades” and enjoyed helping his family build their homes. The most important things in Jim’s life were his family and church. Jim’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved spending time with them. He attended church at the Greensboro United Methodist Church for the last several years. Over the years Jim enjoyed visiting various churches and playing the guitar with different groups, singing gospel music. He has also held several positions in the church such as Sunday school teacher, song leader, and superintendent. Jim loved helping other people and wanted to be of service in anyway he could. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Anna June (Taylor) Owens of New Castle; daughter: Deborah Ann (husband: Donnie) Pyle of New Castle; Grandchildren: Douglas Owen (wife: Amanda) Pyle of Shirley and DeAnna Lauren (husband: Jeff) Watterson of New Castle; Great grandchildren: Caleb Owen Pyle and Connor Douglas Pyle both of Shirley; Lauren Abigail Watterson and Caroline Isabelle “Izzy” Watterson both of New Castle; Brother: Robert “Phil” (wife: Jenny) Owens of New Castle.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter: Linda Faye Owens.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Ruth Waite officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery- West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the funeral home.
