James Schetgen, 93, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at his home. He was born July 11, 1931, in Oldenburg, Franklin County to the late Anthony Leo and Mary (Wesling) Schetgen.
He graduated from New Castle High School in 1949 and served in the United States Marine Corps. James worked for Chrysler for 25 years. He briefly worked as a police officer for the New Castle Police Department. James had a covert ability to make money at everything he did. You could find James working on houses he planned to flip. He was the President of the Tightwad Club until he bought Doris a new Mercedes for their 40th Anniversary. James as a devout Catholic and a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. He also enjoyed traveling out west, especially to Laughlin, Nevada. James loved his family and was a wonderful, husband, dad and grandpa.
He is survived by his daughter, Jan (Brent) Benematti; grandchildren, Aaron (Lorri) Schetgen, Matthew Schetgen, Ashley (Tyron) Rainer, Charissa (Casey) Robinson, Kendra (Mike) Bradley, Brent (Kenzi McCormick) Benematti, Yvette (Joey) Maxwell and Jessica McCorkle; several great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Phillip Davis; sister-in-law, Shelby Jean Rice; several nieces and nephews; friends, Brenda and Ronnie Fultz.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Schetgen; son, Steven Schetgen; in-laws, Roy and Dorthy Davis, brother-in-law, Jamie Davis; siblings, Joesph, Peter Francis, Mary Ann, Rose, Agnes and Theresa; niece Deneen Riley and daughter-in-law, Beverly Schetgen.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his hospice nurses, Angie Wilson and Yvette Maxwell for their exceptional care.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service on Friday. You may express condolences or share a memory of James at www.hinsey-brown.com.
