James Lorn Troxell, 89, peacefully left this world at home on December 26, 2024. He was born on September 18, 1935 in Wayne County, Kentucky to the late Wesley and Mamie (Crabtree) Troxell.
James and his family moved to New Castle, Indiana at a young age but he frequently returned to Wayne County, Kentucky. It was there he met and married Effie Jean Jones on March 27, 1954.
They settled in New Castle where they raised their children and built their life. Eventually they moved to and completely renovated their dream home in Hagerstown. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing in 2022.
James was the epitome of a hard working man. He was a welder by trade, and a member of the UAW. He retired from Converto before enjoying several years in retirement.
In addition, he was a licensed foster parent. Opening his home and with his wife became “Papaw and Mamaw” to several children throughout the years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, watching westerns and listening to bluegrass music.
James loved his family fiercely like few these days ever know. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Marty Troxell of Cambridge City and John (Wilma) Troxell of Corbin, Kentucky, his grandchildren, Joni, Dakota and Carrianne Williams, Dustin and Tupelo Troxell, his great grandchildren, Jason, Macey, Coltin, Eleesia and Marilyn, two bonus children Derric and Brittany as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, his daughter Melissa and granddaughter Amanda. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Mazie, Cecil, Rosie, Lois, Mary Lojean, Arnold, Cortey Margaret and Elvin.
A public service will not be held. The family will be holding a private service in the future.
