James Zinkan

James Robert Zinkan, 76, of Knightstown, passed Monday, February 1, 2010 unexpectedly at his residence. He was born February 21, 1933 in Vincennes, IN the son of Walter and Doris (Murphy) Zinkan.

Jim retired from Fort Harrison Finance Center in Indianapolis in 1988 after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1952-1956. He was a member of the Knightstown Lions Club, Optimist Club and American Legion. A member of the Hoosier Gym Committee, Jim was instrumental in the preservation of the gym. He was voted Knightstown Citizen of the Year in 1995. He was an active member of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Knightstown. He was also an avid fisherman as well as a handyman.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Sharon (Brines) Zinkan of Knightstown; daughters: Lisa (husband: Steven Kopp) Zinkan of Martinez, CA, Pamela (husband: John) Ottinger of Carthage, Katherine Paul of Knightstown, Diane (husband: Tony) Personett of Knightstown; beloved grandchildren: Mick (wife: Laura) Ottinger, Sheri (husband: Eric) Darling, Heather (husband: Wes) Wilburn, Lara Paul, Tucker and Paige Personett; great grandchildren: Cora Gordon, Isaac Ottinger, and Evan Darling; a brother: Gerald (wife: Lee) Zinkan of North Bend, WA; a niece: Lynn Zinkan and a nephew: Larry Zinkan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Lawrence Zinkan.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM Friday, February 5, 2010 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Father Joe Rautenburg and Sister Shirley Gerth officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 PM.
