Jan S. Dicken

Jan S. Dicken, 65, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011 in Henry County Hospital following a brief illness. She was born October 15, 1945 in New Castle, the daughter of Dr. John P. and Joan (Strickler) Cates.

Jan attended Mooreland Schools and graduated from Amber Beauty College in Muncie. She owned and operated Jan’s Beauty Salon in New Castle for over 45 years. Jan was active in the New Lisbon Christian Church and attended the Bible Study Fellowship for over 30 years. She also enjoyed meeting with her many cross stitching friends. She enjoyed watching basketball, especially the Chicago Bulls. Jan enjoyed her entire family, but especially was active in the lives of her grandchildren, interacting with them often.

She is survived by her husband, Russell E. Dicken of New Castle, whom she married March 31, 1979; two children, Jill (husband, David) Hermenet of New Castle, and Brian (wife, Amanda) Brown of Anderson; two grandchildren, Jordan Hermenet of New Castle and Victoria Brown of Anderson; one brother, Jeff (wife, Gayle) Cates of Mooreland; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Cindy Cates of Mooreland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Dr. Jack Cates.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverend Mark Lomison officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.
