Janavieve Newman

Janavieve Newman, age 100, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at her residence. She was born April 17, 1912 in Mooreland, Indiana to the late George and Mary Gay (Schifflet) Davis.

A homemaker, she graduated from Mooreland High School and was a lifelong resident of Mooreland. She was an active member of White Branch Church of the Brethren, where she was in the Ladies Aid and was a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her children, Les (wife, Carolyn) Newman of Linton, IN, David (wife, Debbie) Newman of Greencastle, IN, Howard (wife, Vera) Newman of Scottsdale, AZ and Janet Freese (husband, Walt, deceased) of St. Louis, MO; ten grandchildren, Jeff Freese of St. Louis, MO, Jennifer (husband, Michael) Gavosto of St. Louis, MO, Bill (wife, May) Newman of Tuscon, AZ, Brenda Luster (husband, Caleb deceased) of DesMoines, IA, Terri (husband, John) Heitel of Phoenix, AZ, David Lee (wife, Tammy) Newman of Nashville, TN, Julie (husband, Derek) Attaway of Greencastle, IN, Deanne (husband, Todd) Wideman of Kokomo, IN, Sheryl Newman of Norcross, GA and Jana Johnson of Linton, IN; eighteen great grandchildren, Jon-Michael Gavosto, Jaime Gavosto, James Newman, Christopher Newman, Steven Luster, Curtis Luster, Hailey Heitel, Ashleigh Heitel, Ryan Newman, Kristy Newman Kase, Ashley Attaway, Jessica Attaway, Nicholas Attaway, Katherine Wideman Burke, Alyssa Wideman, Zachery Johnson, Miranda Johnson and Reagan Johnson; one great-great grandchild, Adalyn Attaway-Orr; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kem Newman in 1974; son, George Newman; granddaughter, Connie Newman; grandson, Gary Wayne Newman; six brothers and sisters, Madge Chamberlain, Lynn Davis, Roy Davis, Lewis Davis, Geneva Williams and Ray Davis.


Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 S. Memorial Drive, in New Castle. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 with open calling beginning at 9:30 a.m. at White Branch Church of the Brethren with Pastor Brian Makie officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given at the White Branch Church of the Brethren, 2044 N. Co.
