Jane Painter

January 2, 1924 — December 9, 2009

Jane (Kirkpatrick) Painter of Springport, passed away on December 9, 2009, at the age of 85. She was born January 2, 1924 at her home in Shirley, Indiana to the late Russell and Grace (Bowman) Kirkpatrick.

Jane was valedictorian of her 1943 graduating class at Kennard High School. Her cherished enrollment at Purdue University was cut short after a year, to return home to care for her ailing mother, and was then briefly employed at Delco Remy, Anderson during WWII.

In the past, Jane was a member of the Springport Tuesday Club and Henry County Home Ec. Club, and was a past recipient of Homemaker-of-the-Year Award. She was the Jefferson Township Girls’ 4-H leader for many, many years, and a member of the Macra Na Feirma Farmers Club for over 50 years. She was an active member of the Springport Christian Church, where she served as church treasurer for many years, and was still an active member in the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF). She was an excellent cook and seamstress, and an exceptional mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include four children: Dr. Alan E. (Sandy) Painter of Hollister, CA, Eric L. (Lynne) Painter of Glen Ellyn, IL, Susan J. (Curt) Eichhorn and Betty A. (Curt) Stephenson of Pendleton, IN; eleven grandchildren: Mark and Bret Painter, Emily (R.J.) Watson, Kara (Jocelyn) Painter, John Painter, Jeff (Candice) Eichhorn, Brad and Jobie Eichhorn, Blake, Chase and Spencer Stephenson; four great grandchildren: Savannah, Samuel, Logan and Lillyana Eichhorn, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Floyd M. Painter, whom she married April 3, 1948, and a twin sister, Jean (Kirkpatrick) Ulrey.

Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Rick Fennell officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the funeral home.
