Janice M. Dickerson

Janice M. Dickerson, 80, of New Castle passed away Friday, March 09, 2018 at Heritage House in New Castle. She was born on September 3, 1937 in Straughn, IN, a daughter of the late Cecil and Bertha (Custer) Derrickson.

Janice was a 1955 graduate of Straughn High School. Never afraid of work, Janice worked hard from a young age; in fact, she began working at age 10, holding several jobs over the years. Janice retired from Modernfold but she is best remembered as “The Avon Lady” as she sold Avon for over 40 years. She also served many years in food service at the New Castle School Corporation and was clerk for the family business, Dickerson Auction. Janice was a proud grandmother who deeply cherished and loved her grandchildren. She was a kind hearted, caring and compassionate person. She would do anything for anyone. She was a phenomenal caregiver having cared for her husband and several other family members over the years. Janice was a member of the South Memorial Drive Church of God, “Mother of twins club”, Jolly Jokers Euchre Club for over 50 years and was a courageous Breast Cancer survivor. Janice’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional care and love their mother or “Grandma” as she was known and called by all the staff, received the last year while she was at Heritage House. She was sassy and bossy and they all loved her dearly!

Janice is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Joyce) Dickerson of Indianapolis, Janet Driskill of New Castle, Jada (Alan) Marshall of Plant City, FL, Joyce (Scott) Murphy of New Castle and Jackie (Brian Foster) Dueker of New Castle; grandchildren, Adam Driskill of Hagerstown, Katie (Aaron) Duncan of New Castle, Alex Marshall of Plant City, FL, Emily and Cory Murphy of New Castle, Derek, Regan, and Cassidy Dueker all of New Castle; great grandchildren, Emma and Logan Driskill, Bryce, Abby and Brandon Duncan; sister, Patricia Bryant of Cambridge City; brother, JR (Bette) Derrickson of New Lisbon; sisters-in-law, Mary (Richard) Dudley of New Castle, Linda (Berry) Salt, Jeanette Dickerson of Greensboro and Jo Anne Derrickson of Torrance, CA; brother-in-law, Bill Cowan of Centerville.

In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Dickerson; great grandson, Connor Driskill; brother, Bill Derrickson; sisters, Janie Cowan and Betty Smith; best friend, Joyce Solomon.

Services will be at 11:00am Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Ken Durham officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.
