Jay P. Campbell, 91, of Mooreland, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 8, 2024. Born in Mill Springs, KY on March 10, 1933, he was the beloved son of the late Dallas and Pauline (Armstrong) Campbell.
A 1953 graduate of Hagerstown High School, Jay proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a motor mechanic on utility track vehicles while stationed in Germany.
Jay was a man of many talents, known for his outgoing nature and love of trying new things. A true craftsman, he built the home where he and his family have lived for many years. He spent his life as a dedicated farmer, raising mostly cattle but also raised many other various farm animals over the years as well as corn and hay. His passion for farming was matched by his hard work in the packaging industry, where he was employed by Essex Containers, Jefferson Smurfit, and Diamond Containers for 35 years before retiring. In his free time, Jay enjoyed attending farm shows, favored Ford and Oliver tractors, as well as listening to polka music and watching wrestling.
Jay is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty (Blevins) Campbell of Mooreland; children, David (Rachelle) Cambell of Mt. Summit, Debra (Robert) Kovach of Mt. Summit, Rhonda S. (Mike) Bumbalough of New Castle and Jeffery (significant other: Candice) Campbell of Muncie; grandchildren, Jessica Olan, Justinn Campbell, Star (significant other: Mason) Campbell, Allena Campbell, Tori (significant other: Luis) Campbell; great grandchildren, Isabella and Dominic Sexton, Jesse and Hunter Contreras, Ariel Shelton and Ronda Luellen; siblings, Ruby Christine Wilson of New Castle and Joe (Barbara) Campbell of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law.
In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Campbell, Reba Campbell, Kendrick Campbell, Charlie Campbell, Tena Frost, Irene Persinger and Oscar Campbell.
Services will be held at 11:00am Monday, October 14, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share memories of Jay at www.hinsey-brown.com.
