Jean Latham Kurz, 77, of New Castle died Friday, June 10, 2011 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born December 26, 1933 in Albany, Kentucky
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. In 1950, she was voted May queen at Clinton County High School in Albany, Kentucky. She retired from the New Castle State Developmental Center Pharmacy after 33 years of service. She was chief investigator for anti-convulsive drug studies for the World Health Organization. Jean attended the First United Methodist Church and was formerly a member of First Baptist Church in New Castle. After retirement, she volunteered at the Henry County Hospital Gift Shop.
Survivors include her husband: Charles E. Kurz, whom she married October 1, 1976; son: Jeff K. (wife: Nevali) Latham of New Castle; daughter: Lisa K. (husband: Brad) Garvin, of New Castle; stepson: Rick (wife: Karen) Kurz of Connersville; two stepdaughters: Ricci (husband: Tim) Atchison and Julie Kurz, both of New Castle; seven grandchildren: Nathanial Latham, Joe, Lily & Ella Jean Garvin, Jeremy Kurz, Brock Atchison and Kaycie Gatch; great grandchildren: Sam Latham, Hannah Atchison and Skye Kurz; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Effie Edith Cross Jarvis; a brother: Bill (wife: Mildred) Cross of Lynn.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
