Jerry W. Nicholas, age 63, of Spiceland, passed away unexpectedly at his residence. He was born November 18, 1945 in Henry County to the late Walter and Hattie (Hughes) Nicholas.
A 1964 graduate of Spiceland High School, he played basketball for the Spiceland Stingers. He also attended Indiana University East in Richmond. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 34 years of service. He served in the United States Marine Corp, was a member of the American Legion #152 in Knightstown and UAW Local #371. Jerry was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing poker.
Survivors include his wife: Terri Nicholas of Spiceland; daughter: Michelle (fiance: Donal Matheny) of Pendleton; a son: Larry Nicholas (partner: Chris Jenkins) of Massena, NY; stepdaughter: Brandi Carnes of Spiceland; two stepsons: Matthew Carnes and Alex Carnes both of New Castle; two grandchildren: Jake Nicholas and Samantha Holie Brown; a step grandson: Zachary Baldock; three sisters: Josephine Hammond of Spiceland, Shirley Ann Clark of New Castle and Frances Madden of FL; a brother: Andy (wife: Betty) Nicholas of FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Fonza Parker and Marcella Maloney; a brother: Amos Nicholas; a brother-in-law: Cecil Hammond; a niece: Angela Baker and a nephew: Steven Hammond.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Carol Wiley officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion. Memorial contributions may be given to the Knightstown American Legion Honor Guard.
