Jewel F. Young, age 89, formerly of Muncie, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born July 26, 1923 in French Lick, Indiana to the late James W. and Rosa A. (Walls) Brown.
Jewel demonstrated Baldwin organs for Hood Music in Muncie. She had been a secretary to the Superintendent of Cowan Schools for 10 years and had worked as a receptionist for Professional Management Company. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Jewel and her husband, Carl, promoted the Muncie Gospel Sing for 35 years. They also played Sunday morning gospel music on WERK radio for 17 years. She sang and played with the Carl Young Family for revivals and concerts.
Survivors include her children, Beverly J. (husband, Gary) Kibbey of Indianapolis, Shirley J. (husband, Darrel) Herring of Westfield, Judy C. (husband, Greg) Collett of Mechanicsburg and Randy C. (wife, Ginger) Young of Greenfield; six grandchildren, Aaron Herring, Jennifer M. Kibbey, Yardley Collett, Cameron D. Herring, Marin Young, and Caris Young; two great grandchildren, Clayton and Addyson Herring; brother, Kenneth W. (wife, Ada) Brown of Richmond; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Young; siblings, Paul Brown, Olive Bennett, and Keith Brown.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Darrel Herring officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
