Jim Swift, 84, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at IU Health Ball Hospital. He was born November 4, 1927 in Waynesburg, Kentucky to the late Charles and Anna Mae (Orcutt) Swift.
Jim retired from the city of New Castle in 1990 and previously worked at Trainer Spring for over 30 years. He was a member of First Church of Nazarene where he served as an usher and greeter. He enjoyed being outdoors, working on lawn mowers, gardening and loved animals. He and his wife were foster parents for over 30 years and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife: Vera (Ford) Swift, whom he married August 7, 1948, sons: Stephen James (wife: Phyllis) Swift of New Castle, Jeffrey Lynn (wife: Karen) Swift of New Castle, Timothy H. (wife: Rachael) Swift of Richmond; daughters: Cindy (husband: John) Melton, Carol (husband: Bill) Hamby, Cathy (husband: Eric) Keesling all of New Castle; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and one on the way, sister: Loretta Todd of Eubank, Kentucky; brothers: Dallas (wife: Emma) Swift of St. Petersburg, Florida, Clarence (wife: Barbara) Swift of Waynesburg, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons: Jerry F. and Brian Swift; daughter: Jeanett Swift and a brother: Pete Swift.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at First Church of the Nazarene (1727 Grand Ave. New Castle, IN 47362) with Rev. Danny Goddard officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 At Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Cancer Society or Riley Children’s Hospital with envelopes available at the funeral home.
