Joan Utt Phipps

Joan Utt Phipps, 85, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Stonebrooks Augustas Cottage. She was born July 19, 1928 in New Castle the daughter of William and Minnie (Symons) Utt.

Joan attended First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed working in her garden with her flowers and loved her sparkly jewelry. She also enjoyed sports and yodeling.

Survivors include her children, Vicki (Pete) Reece and Greg (Donna) Phipps both of New Castle; grandchildren, James and Katey Phipps, Mark Reece (fiancé, Melissa Jones, Austyn and Bradley), Cindy (Jason) Duncan, Chad (Jennifer) Reece and Peggy Reece; six great grandchildren, Riley, Max, Carson and Scarlett Reece, Delaney and Darcy Duncan; a brother-in-law, Francis Thompson; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. Phipps; four brothers, John, Harold, Marion and Billy Utt; seven sisters, Vera Lorton, Hilda Shafer, Coralee Shafer, Della Banta, Evelyn Snyder, Martha McGuire and Ruth Thompson.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mike Kirby and Pastor Danny Goddard officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
